With her win in the California primary last week, Lexington resident Jill Stein locked up enough "delegates" to win the Green Party's presidential nomination.
Jill Stein, the Lexington resident and Green Party presidential hopeful, has clinched her party’s nomination. Her win last week in the California primary brought Stein’s delegate tally to 194, more than the 182 necessary to win the nomination, according to reports. Stein has won 66 percent of all delegates allocated, triple that of her nearest competitor, Roseanne Barr. (Yes, that Roseanne Barr.) "Voters will not be forced to choose between two servants of Wall Street in the upcoming election,” said Stein in a statement posted on her website. “Now we know there will be a third candidate on the ballot who is a genuine champion of working people." A physician and familiar fringe candidate in her home state, Stein’s presidential platform is …

The Lexington resident and presumptive Green Party presidential candidate is looking for online input regarding her running mate, plus her Mother's Day video and reaction to President Obama support for marriage equality.
Jill Stein, the Lexington resident and prospective Green Party presidential nominee, is crowdsourcing to select a running mate in her bid to give the White House a Green makeover. Earlier this week, Stein’s campaign announced she had crossed the 50 percent threshold to winning the Green Party’s 2012 nomination and had locked up 75 percent of all delegates, with the next nearest candidate—comedienne Roseanne Barr, who’s more concerned with platforms than the presidency—14 percent. With Stein’s stronghold on presumptive nominee status, queries have turned to the topic of a Green Party veep, and her team, in turn, is looking to the interwebs for suggestions. “Many have asked about who Jill Stein will choose as her vice presidential running …

During a Super Tuesday spent at home in Lexington, the local Green Party presidential hopeful opened up to Patch about the energized youth and what victory would mean to her.
Heading into this week’s end, Lexington’s Green Party presidential hopeful, Jill Stein, is nine for nine in primaries and appears in prime position to grab the party’s nomination. And, even as she’s been frustrated at times about how difficult it can be to uncover good news about each passing primary, Stein has been equally as excited about the energy she encountered out on the campaign trail. Having hit a number of college towns and Occupy outposts over the first six months of her campaign, Stein, 61, says it’s exciting how the younger generation, as it comes of political age, is connecting with Green Party ideas and solutions. “There’s no doubt that the coming of age politically of a whole new generation is very much a part of this …

Base tours, Busa Land plans, elections, arts and more this week in Lexington.
A very busy start to this week as Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray on Monday led a tour of Hanscom Air Force Base and then convened a meeting of his newly created Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force at MIT Lincoln Labs in Lexington. That night, the Board of Selectmen voted on uses for the town-owned Busa Farms property, opting for affordable housing and open space, which doesn’t close the door on either farming or recreation uses for the property. That decision is TBD. Tuesday was the annual Town Election, as well as Super Tuesday. Weidong Wang won a seat on the Housing Authority in the only contested race for elected office and Republican Mitt Romney and Jill Stein, a Lexington resident and Green Party presidential hopeful, easily …

In the town's only contested race for elected office, Weidong Wang edged out Dan McCabe to claim a seat on the Lexington Housing Authority. Former Gov. Mitt Romney easily outpaced his competition in the Republican primary.
There was just one contested race for elected office yesterday in Lexington, but it was a close one. According to unofficial preliminary results released last night by the Town Clerk's Office, Weidong Wang, a political newcomer in town who positioned himself as a voice for Lexington's Asian community, narrowly defeated Dan McCabe to win a five-year term on the Lexington Housing Authority. Just 24 percent of Lexington's 21,520 registered voters turned out for the annual Town Elections, which coincided with Super Tuesday and the Massachusetts presidential primary. Housing Authority was the only contested race for elected office and Wang earned 2,295, edging out McCabe's tally of 2,033. The difference between the two fell well short of the …
Stein's Super Tuesday at home in Lexington included friends, supporters, folk music and exactly one reporter.
A little more than an hour after the polls closed in her home state of Massachusetts, Jill Stein sat down at her kitchen table and opened a laptop. Nothing. It’s not easy being Green. But spirits were high inside Stein’s Lexington home, where the Green Party presidential hopeful awaited Super Tuesday results with a small group of friends and supporters. Homemade vegan chop suey and an applesauce cake with “Jill” written in light chocolate frosting sat on the kitchen table. Conversation around the room touched on superficial differences between major parties and lamented their lack of media coverage. And Stein joined activist folk singers Tom Neilson and Lynn Waldron in an acoustic number about business as usual in Washington. They …

A car accident, a LHS senior launches a sorta serious last-minute bid for the Board of Selectmen and a few other observations from the polls around Lexington at the outset of Super Tuesday and annual Town Elections.
Updated at 12 p.m. Here are a few quick hits and observations from this morning. -- Though the voters only trickled in at some locations around town in the first few hours after the polls opened, election day started out with a bang. Literally. A head-on collision outside the Estabrook School, the Precinct 7 polling place in Lexington, shut down a portion of Grove Street. However, there were no injuries sustained in the accident and police and fire personnel directed traffic so as to allow residents to carry out their civic duty, an officer on scene said. -- Around 8 a.m. this morning, the publicity team for Jill Stein, the hometown Green Party presidential hopeful, said she would be arriving in Lexington sometime today, but they weren't …

Jill Stein, the Green Party presidential hopeful from Lexington, is on a winning streak heading into the presidential primary in her home state this Tuesday.
Heading in to Lexington’s annual Town Elections, which are synced up with the “Super Tuesday” presidential primaries this year, one local candidate has been building some real momentum. But it’s probably not who you’d think. Lexington resident Jill Stein, a Green Party presidential hopeful, has picked up five straight primary wins—in Ohio, Maine, Minnesota, Illinois and, most recently, Arizona—en route to the March 6 Super Tuesday, when she’ll be on the ballot in her home state. "After big wins in Ohio, Minnesota, Maine, Illinois, and now Arizona, it’s clear that Greens across the country are uniting behind our campaign,” said Stein in a statement posted to her website last week. “Together we are calling for a Green New Deal to put 25 …

In a poll conducted earlier this week on the noted Green Party Watch blog, Lexington physician Jill Stein nearly doubled up Roseanne Barr in a race among candidates seeking the Green Party's presidential nomination in 2012.
It seems Lexington physician Jill Stein still has a leg up on her newest challenger for the Green Party's presidential nomination. Roseanne Barr made a bit of a splash as the press picked up on her apirations to become the Green Party's presidential candidate, but the TV personality wasn't able to outpace Stein in a poll this week on a leading Green Party political site. From Feb. 1 to Feb. 2, the Green Party Watch blog coducted a poll featuring the four candidates currently the party's nomination for the Presidential Election. Of 1,792 votes cast, Jill Stein received 1,223, or 68 percent, more than doubling up on Barr, who garnered picked up 526 votes, about 29 percent. According to Green Party Watch, Barr is an avid tweeter and has used…
