Thirteen of Your Neighbors Will Walk the Marathon Route for the Jimmy Fund

The following announcement was provided on behalf of the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fun Walk.

  On Sept. 9, 13 residents from Lexington will walk up to 26.2 miles along the historic route of the Boston Marathon in the 24th annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai. They will be among the 9,000 walkers expected to participate with the collective goal of raising more than $7.5 million to support lifesaving adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk is the largest single-day participatory event benefiting the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber and has raised nearly $80 million since its inception in 1989 to conquer all forms of cancer. Registration Opens Soon for Pan-Mass Cycling Challenge

Last year, 68 Lexington residents raised $466,344 of the $35 million donated by the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Registration will soon be open for the 33rd annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, one of the highest-ranking athletic fundraising events in the country. Last year, 68 Lexington residents raised $466,344 of the $35 million donated by the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. This year, registration opens Jan. 17 for the event scheduled to take place on Aug. 4 and 5. This year’s Pan-Massachusetts Challenge will include 11 routes ranging from 25 to 190 miles. Lexington residents help Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Donate $35 million to Dana-Farber

Almost half a mill came from the dozens of Lexington residents who participated in the PMC.

The following is a press release provided by Teak Media Communications for the PMC. Sixty-eight Lexington residents raised $466,344 of the $35 million donated by the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. They were among 5,169 cyclists who rode up to 190 miles across Massachusetts to raise money for cancer research and treatment. The 2011 fundraising total is $2 million, or 5.7 percent, more than the PMC gave in 2010 and brings its 32-year Jimmy Fund contribution to $338 million. The PMC is the most successful athletic fundraising event in the nation; it raises and contributes more money to charity than any other. Lexingtonians Walk for Jimmy Fund

Twenty-five Lexington residents signed up to walk 26.2 miles to raise money for Dana-Farber.

Twenty-five residents from Lexington walked up to 26.2 miles along the historic route of the Boston Marathon last Sunday in the 23rd annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, according to event organizers.  The locals were among the "nearly 9,000 walkers expected to participate with the collective goal of raising more than $7.5 million for lifesaving adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund," according to a press release. Lexington's Burger Prepared to Pedal in Pan-Mass

Todd Burger will participate in his fifth Pan-Mass Challenge this weekend, raising money for cancer research as he rides across the Commonwealth with thousands of others.

Lexington resident and four-time Pan-Mass Challenge veteran, Todd Burger, 58, will set out on Aug. 6 and 7 to ride alongside 5,000 cyclists to raise money for cancer care and research for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. Burger is taking on not only the 190-mile, two day route, but he is also throwing in 34 additional miles for good measure. Burger will cycle to and from his lodging throughout the weekend and from the ferry dock to Lexington after returning from Provincetown on Sunday.
