A 1997 Lexington High graduate, McDuffee was killed while breaking up a fight in 2002, just two months shy of his graduation from Bates College, where he captained the lacrosse team.

This Sunday, March 3, the lacrosse teams from Bates and Skidmore colleges will play non-conference game dedicated to the life and memory of Morgan McDuffee, a student-athlete who graduated from Lexington High School and attended Bates College.  It's the second-ever meeting between the two teams, who played each other for the first time last year to mark the 10th anniversary of McDuffee's death. Those involved with the game hope to make it an annual event. McDuffee was a 1997 graduate of Lexington High School, where he was a standout athlete, captaining both the football and lacrosse teams. The following press release was provided by Leslie Wilcott-Henrie on behalf of Bates College Athletics. Sports Week in Review, July 16 - July 22

A recap look at the games and stories Patch covered in and around Lexington this week.

The Summer Bay State Games continued around the region earlier this week, with at least one Lexington resident helping out the Metro squad. Michelle Feenstra, a rising sophomore at Lexington Christian Academy, was on the field for Metro’s girls’ lacrosse team when it handed the Northeast/Central team a loss last Saturday. One of just two rising sophomores on the Metro team, Feenstra didn’t score in her squad’s 18-11, but did plenty to contribute. On Thursday, Patch caught up with LHS golfer Jason Tzannes. Not only did he recently take first place in a Junior PGA Tour event in Gardner, but he did so while hobbled with a knee injury. Tzannes will be entering his senior year for the Minutemen in the fall. On Wednesday, the Lexington Blue Sox …

LCA Athlete Aids Lax Team in Bay State Games Win

Michelle Feenstra, a rising sophomore at Lexington Christian, is one of the youngest girls on her squad for the annual summer tournament.

WALTHAM – In person and on the sidelines, Michelle Feenstra is soft spoken and reserved. But that all changes when she steps on a lacrosse field, so says Alisa Arakelian, Feenstra’s coach for the annual Bay State Summer Games. The Lexington resident and rising sophomore at Lexington Christian Academy is among the youngest of dozens of girls competing in the lacrosse tournament this week. On the Metro squad, she’s one of just two players to recently finish freshman year. “It’s really fun. Our team, it’s not the biggest, but we all have fun together and are really connecting,” Feenstra said on Saturday, after she helped Metro defeat the Northeast/Central squad 18-11 during the second day of competition at Waltham High School. While Feenstra …

Sports Week in Review, July 9 - July 15

A recap look at the games and stories Patch covered in and around Lexington this week.

This was a good week for Lexington Post 38, as the American Legion baseball team picked up two key victories with the summer season winding down. Both wins came in dominating fashion. First, on Saturday, Lexington defeated Arlington/Belmont by 10 runs. Post 38 started off quick with a 6-0 lead and held off the opposition the rest of the way. Scoop Ruxin and Tommy McKenna stepped up and filled in on the mound. On Thursday, Ruxin was back on the mound against Concord Post 158. Lexington started a little slower this time, but cranked things up with five runs apiece in the fourth and sixth innings to run away with the victory. Billy Borden entered as a pinch hitter in the fifth and had a double, a triple and four RBIs. Things didn’t go quite …

Bay State Games: 14 Saves for Foley as Metro/Southwest Beats Central

Lexington's Shane Foley's solid second half showing helped Metro/Southwest hold off Central.

Metro/Southeast kicked off its Bay State Games with a 9-7 win over Central yesterday at Wentworth Tech's Sweeney Field, on the strength of four goals from Medford's Ryan McCarthy and 14 saves from Lexington High goalie Shane Foley. "Shane really stepped up in the second half," Metro/Southeast coach Mike Simone said. "If he hadn't made a couple of those saves at the end, they might have come back to beat us." Metro/Southeast controlled yesterday's game from the start, as Lexington's Danny Gill fired in an unassisted goal late in the first quarter to put the team up 3-0.   Metro/Southeast led 6-3 at the half, and 8-5 in the fourth quarter, before Central went on a two-goal run and had a two-man advantage down 8-7 with five minutes left. …

Lexington Spring 2011 Season in Review

A look back at how the LHS athletic teams fared during the spring season.

Students at Lexington High School are patiently counting down until the end of the school year, which looms just a few short days away. But for Minutemen athletes, the year is already over as many LHS teams wrapped up the spring season during the past few weeks. It was yet another successful season for teams wearing blue and gold, with a number of Minutemen squads closing out their year in various MIAA sectional tournaments. While none of Lexington’s teams earned the right to hoist a sectional title trophy and a spot in the state tourney, many still turned in stellar years that will be used as building blocks for future success. Here we will recap how the Minutemen fared with the Patch Spring 2011 Season in Review by taking a look back at …

Lexington Girls Lax Tops Burlington, 17-6

Minutemen rout the Red Devils on Senior Day.

The seven seniors on Lexington High School’s girls lacrosse team had much to celebrate on Tuesday afternoon. It was senior day, as the team played its final home game at Lincoln Field, and the girls easily defeated Burlington High School for the second time this season This time LHS nearly tripled up the Red Devils with a 17-6 victory. The Minutemen sprang out to a 3-0 lead against the Red Devils as senior captains Diana Hines and Meghan McNabb and classmate Amanda Bouchard buried shots from in close to the crease. Lexington allowed Burlington to come within two goals, at 3-1, on Burlington’s first score at 22:51 in the first. But that was as close as the Red Devils would get all game long. Jean Hanafin and Carissa Healy each scored twice …

Late-game Heroics Lift LHS Boys Lacrosse

Lexington fends off pesky Winchester squad for 4-3 victory.

After leading for much of its game against Winchester High School on Thursday afternoon, the Lexington High School boys’ lacrosse team needed some late-game heroics to pull out the victory. Tied at 3-all with less than two minutes to play, the Minutemen won a crucial faceoff, then an even more important battle for a groundball to set up Conor Henrie for the game winner. He delivered with 7 seconds remaining to give Lexington the 4-3 win a low-scoring affair. “We talked a lot after the game about how our offense will need to play with more energy and determination if we are going to win games against good teams,” Lexington coach Dave Walsh said. “We relied too heavily on our defense and goalie in this game, and that won't work in our favor …
