How Can Lexington Thrive in the Face of a Changing Climate?

'Let's Do More Than Talk' is the tagline for the League of Women Voters of Lexington's final First Friday Forum of the year, to be held Friday, May 3 at Cary Memorial Library.

  The following information was provided on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Lexington. How can Lexington thrive in the face of changing climate?  Join the League of Women Voters of Lexington at its First Friday Forum on May 3 to hear results from the recent LWV Community Conversation on Climate Change and learn what Lexington has accomplished so far. Bill Hadley, director of Public Works, Mark Sandeen of Sustainable Lexington, and others will talk about plans for the development of our own Climate Action Plan and the next steps we can take as a community to both reduce the effects of the changing climate and respond to its impacts.  This is the seventh in a series of 2012-2013 First Friday Forums hosted by the League of Women …

US Senate Primary: Last Minute Rides and Study Guides

Patch and the local League of Women Voters have got you covered.

Six candidates -- three Demcorats and three Republicans -- will be facing off in tomorrow's special US Seate primary elections, the winners earning the right to square off in the general this June. And the winner there will fill the term of John Kerry, who vacated his seat after his appointment as Secretary of State. Patch editors interviewed each of the candidates, and you can find a roundup of those interviews here. The League of Women Voters has also put together a handy voters guide, which you can find here. And, per the ususal, the League of Women Voters of Lexington will be providing free rides to the polls for those in need. 1. First Friday Forum: At 9:15 a.m. this morning at Cary Library, the League of Women Voters will host a First Friday Forum on the state budget and its impact on Lexington. Luc Schuster, senior policy analyst for the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center, will show how past tax policy choices have contributed to the state's ongoing fiscal crisis, leading to painful cuts to many programs. LWV Candidates Night Scheduled for Valentine's Day

The following announcement was provided by the League of Women Voters of Lexington. The League of Women Voters of Lexington will present a Candidates Night on Thursday, Feb. 14 in the Science Lecture Hall at Lexington High School. An annual event presented by the league to encourage greater participation in Town elections, this is an opportunity for candidates to present their positions on the issues and to listen to their constituents’ concerns.  In the first part of the evening, candidates for Town Meeting will gather in assigned classrooms to meet and exchange ideas with voters from their own precincts. In the second part, the audience will meet in the school auditorium to hear the views of people seeking Town-wide elective office, …

Ask Them Anything: Question-and-Answer Evening with Lexington’s State Reps

The following information was provided on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Lexington.

  Lexington’s representatives to the State Legislature, state Sen. Mike Barrett, state Sen. Ken Donnelly and state Rep. Jay Kaufman, will be answering your questions at a Q-&-A forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Cary Memorial Hall. The public is encouraged to bring questions on 3 x 5 cards. Cards will also be available at the event. Sponsored by the Lexington Town Meeting Members Association and the League of Women Voters of Lexington, and moderated by Lexington Town Meeting Moderator Deborah Brown, this will be an opportunity for citizens to directly ask questions of their representatives.
