The Lexington Farmers’ Market will return for its ninth season, rain or shine, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday, May 21, at the corner of Mass Ave and Woburn Street. Come down at 2 p.m. and help our market sponsors ring in the new year, and celebrate all things local with us. Visitors can find an eclectic mix of local food, crafts and entertainment every week from May 21 until the end of October. The market is open every Tuesday, providing fresh, native produce to visitors directly from farmers. With Thanksgiving FEASTival, LFM Hosts Last-Minute Shopping Event

In three years, the Lexington Farmers Market annual FEASTival is fast becoming a local holiday tradition.

Hurricane Sandy might have washed out the Lexington Farmers Market’s last regularly scheduled market day of the year, but that wicked superstorm can’t touch this Tuesday’s Thanksgiving FEASTival. In just three years, the LFM’s FEASTival, held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at Seasons Four in East Lexington, has already become a bit of an annual holiday tradition. This year’s will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 20. “It gives shoppers a chance to see some of their favorite farmers and vendors one last time, shop for local, fresh products and stock up on special items before winter,” said Leslie Wilcott Henrie for the LFM. “In addition to turkey, wine, vegetables, baked goods and treats for the Thanksgiving table, many shoppers pick up …

Healthy Communities Project Coming to Lexington Farmers Market

Lexington's Health Division will host a fair at the farmers market as it begins working to identify ways to improve health and quality of life in Lexington.

A trip to the local farmers market could be even better for your health in the weeks ahead as the Lexington Health Division plans to kick off its Healthy Communities Project amid fruits, vegetables and artisan offerings.    According to a press release, the Health Division will host a “Healthy Communitites Fair” at the Lexington Farmers Market from 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28. This serves as the kick-off for the Healthy Communities Project, an 18-month community planning process that aims to identify ways to improve health and quality of life in Lexington. Kids who attended a recent free Kids Cooking Green workshop at the Lexington Farmers’ Market got a taste of summer and a lot of great information about fun and healthy eating. Dietician Joy McCallum, who specializes in pediatric nutrition, talked with kids about eating a rainbow of colorful foods.  The kids learned  that peppers alone, grow in colors from red, orange, yellow to green, and offer a burst of color and flavor on their plate. Joy McCallum then took them on a scavenger hunt for turnips, peas and beans throughout the Market. Some kids had never even seen a turnip before! Kids also got a chance to talk to farmers about raising food locally and bringing it to a farmers’ market. Kids then mixed together a local fresh fruit smoothie …
