Five Things: Trivia Competition at LHS, Meetings and More

A quick look at what you need to see, do and know on Dec. 10 in Lexington.

1. LHS Trivia Competition: At 7 p.m. tonight at Lexington High, the LHS H.O.P.E. Club is hosting a trivia competition for students, with proceeds benefitting the Bring Me A Book Foundation, an organization that works to promote literacy throughout the US and abroad. Admission is $3 for students and $5 for everyone else. 2. Today in Public Meetings: According to the town website, public meetings posted for today include the Special Education Parents Advisory Council at 9 a.m. at Cary Library, the Transportation Advisory Committee at 2 p.m. at Cary Hall and the Lexington Council for the Arts at 7 p.m. at the Munroe Center for the Arts. 3. Lexington High Team Qualifies for High School Quiz Show

LHS squad is one of 16 to advance to compete in the show's fourth season.

The following information was provided on behalf of High School Quiz Show. Sixteen Massachusetts public high school academic teams, including a team from Lexington High School, have advanced to compete on season four of High School Quiz Show, WGBH’s academic quiz show hosted by Billy Costa, premiering Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. on WGBH 2. The show’s production team announced the 16 schools on High School Quiz Show’s Facebook page earlier today. Teams qualified by earning top scores on “Super Sunday,” an event at which registered school teams each took an identical 100-question oral quiz at WGBH Studios in Brighton. Russell's Blast Launches Arlington Past Visiting Lexington

Arlington Left fielder Dan Russell's fourth-inning bomb down Pond Terrace gave the Spy Ponders a 2-1 lead and a much-needed spark.

With his team down 1-0 going into the bottom half of the fourth inning Wednesday against visiting Lexington, Arlington High’s Jonathan Matos asked his teammates, who had yet to get a hit, for a little help while he was walking off the mound. “Come on! Let’s go!” he shouted coming back to the bench. Left fielder Dan Russell must have heard him, as four batters later, with the bases loaded and one out, Russell absolutely crushed a ball over Lexington’s left fielder. Russell easily could have circled the bases, but the ball rolled down Pond Terrace, which is a ground-rule double at Spy Pond Field.
