Some areas could see three inches of rain.
The first tropical system of the hurricane season is headed toward Southern New England. Tropical Storm Andrea is expected to make landfall in Florida Thursday evening before speeding up the coast to New England on Friday. Andrea is bringing tropical downpours and lightning to the Gulf region though the winds are not packing much of a punch at this point, according to Channel 7 meteorologist Pete Bouchard. The current forecast shows Andrea hitting the Boston area from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. The forecast calls for mostly wet snow and little accumulation in suburbs west of Boston.
Another big storm will hit the Boston area on Wednesday and Thursday, but it looks like it will be mostly rain in Eastern Massachusetts. The storm will hit Wednesday morning and last through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service forecast, but little accumulation is expected in Lexington. WHDH TV meteorologist Jeremy Reiner writes in his blog: Time to start talking about a big storm heading this way. It's the same storm that will pound the Midwest-Mid Atlantic today & tomorrow. Weather forecasters are predicting at least six inches of snow with a foot of snow possible.
Will Lexington get pummeled this weekend with more than a foot of snow or will it be a half-foot with rain mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The NWS said 6 inches of snow or more is possible and warned of heavy wet snow that may fall at 1 to 2 inches per hour. Snow may mix with rain in the Lexington area. The NWS warned that the heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs and result in scattered power outages. Forecasters say we could get 8-12 inches of snow.
Once again, the snow is melting. But once again, don't put the shovels away: the weekend could bring more snow. A new snowstorm is headed our way for Saturday and Sunday, forecasters say, and Lexington could see up to 12 inches of new snow before it's done. On his blog, WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard is calling for light rain along the coast Saturday with snow inland and snow across the region by Sunday morning. "Heavy snow through early morning Sunday. Roads will be tough to travel, and yes, your flight will most likely be delayed or cancelled. (Although I don't run an airline, so I'll let them have the final word.)," Bouchard writes. As of now, forecasts call for 8 to 12 inches of new snow in the towns around Rte. 128.

The National Weather Service has also issued a freeze warning for our area tonight and into Friday.
It's not even Halloween yet, but we could have our first snowfall of the season tonight. According to the National Weather Service, Lexington could have as much as one-inch of snow accumulation by this time Friday morning. The NWS is expecting a 100 percent chance of precipitation Thursday—rain during the day, snow at night. And with the potential for white stuff comes a "freeze watch" by the NWS for southern Middlesex County, including Lexington. The freeze watch is in effect from tonight until early Friday morning as temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s or low 30s.
