You Ask, Patch Answers: Lions Club Carnival and Hastings Park

Who foots the bill for post-carnival cleanup at Hastings Park? Will the park become the annual Fourth of July carnival’s new home? You ask, Patch answers.

Over the past few days, a few followers of Lexington Patch have asked about post-carnival cleanup at Hastings Park and whether the carnival will continue to call Hastings home moving forward. The Short Answers: A Little Bit Longer Now Due to ongoing renovations and repairs to playing fields, the Lexington Lions Club’s annual Fourth of July Carnival this year relocated to Hastings Park from is previous location by the Center Fields across Worthen Road. PHOTOS: 4th of July Carnival Opens Tonight; Watch Hastings Park Morph

The Lexington Lions Club's annual Fourth of July Carnival opens at 6 p.m. today, July 3, but the equipment arrived Sunday took shape on Monday at Hastings Park.

Autobots they are not, but carnival rides came together pretty quickly on Monday, July 2, as Hastings Park transformed into the Lexington Lions Club's 56th annual Fourth of July Carnival.  The carnival, which runs through this Saturday, July 7, will be slightly smaller than in years past, a result of its relocation across Worthen Road due to fields work at the Center Recreation Complex. However, a Fiesta Shows rep on-site Monday said the workers and rides were adapting well to the new digs.  It's unclear exactly which rides or attractions were lost to the relocation, but many popular rides have returned from past years, including Freak Out, Vertigo, Tilt-a-Whirl and, of course, the carousel. Notably absent will be the Ferris wheel, which …

Lions Club Carnival Headed for Hastings Park

The annual Fourth of July carnival will be held at Hastings Park due to fields work around Lexington's Center Recreation Complex.

Nearby Hastings Park will be home to this year’s carnival, to open from Tuesday, July 3 through Saturday, July 7. According to plans presented at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Monday, June 4, the carnival will be slightly smaller due the plot and configuration, but it’s unclear which rides will be affected or eliminated. According to the plans, equipment will arrive on Sunday, July 1, with setup on Monday and the opening at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3. Fireworks are …

Indepedence Day Weekend was Quiet for Police

It was a holiday weekend without many (criminal) fireworks, police said.

Fireworks flared and drinks flowed, but overall, it was a quiet Fourth of July weekend as far as crime is concerned, according to Lexington Police. From Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4, the Lexington Police Department responded to eight calls complaining about residential fireworks, and that’s not counting the three bursts of illegal fireworks set off before, during and after the official display at Center Playground. During the same span, officers arrested two men for operating under the influence – one of alcohol and the other marijuana – while a third man who allegedly operated under the influence was transported to Lahey Clinic after flipping his car on Concord Avenue. He’ll be summonsed for OUI, police said. A fourth man was …

Photo Gallery: Fireworks Fill Pre-Fourth Sky

Outside the Lions Club's annual Fourth of July Carnival, fireworks lit up the early July sky, Saturday night in Lexington.

Cars lined Worhten Street and packed adjacent parking lots from Lexington High School up to Grace Chapel evening as crowds poured in and out of the Lion's Club's 55th annual Fourth of July Carnival. It was Saturday evening, July 2, just a little more than an hour before the fireworks display, considered by many to be the capstone event of the five-day carnival, which also features rides, games, fair food and other attractions. As darkness descended upon the Center complex, enveloping the giant slide like a Snuggie, lines grew long at concession stands and picnicking people gobbled up sports on the grass fields on either side of the carnival. Right about 9:30 p.m., came the Independence Day staple they were all waiting for -- fireworks shot…
