Sheriff Koutoujian Moves a Step Closer to Run for Congress

The campaign committee called “Koutoujian for Congress” allows the candidate to raise money for a campaign and hire campaign staff.

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian announced Thursday that he is opening a Congressional campaign committee account. The move is a serious indication that Koutoujian will run for U.S. Congress if Congressman Edward Markey wins the U.S. Senate special election next month. Middlesex Sheriff Inaugurated; Details Improvement Plans

Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian was inaugurated at Bentley University in Waltham on Feb. 13.

  Before he detailed plans to improve his agency, Peter J. Koutoujian was sworn into his first elected term as Middlesex County Sheriff on Wednesday, Feb. 13.  In front of a large audience of family, colleagues and friends, Koutoujian, a life-long Waltham resident and former state representative for the city, took the oath of office during a 4 p.m. ceremony at the LaCava Center at Bentley University. Koutoujian was elected to the post in November 2012 to fill the remaining four years of a six-year term. Gov. Deval Patrick appointed Koutoujian in late 2010 after former sheriff James DiPaola took his own life.  Koutoujian, in a 25-minute speech, said he plans to boost correction officer wellness and hire more academy-trained officers. Sergeant in Sheriff's Office Arraigned on Drug Charges

An investigation begun in April culminated with yesterday's arrest.

A Somerville man arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine while working for the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department was arraigned in Woburn District Court this morning. The Middlesex District Attorney's office reported that the defendant, Michael Dell’Isola, 51, was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail with the condition that he stays away from the Sheriff’s Department by Judge Paul Yee. His next court date is June 8 for a probable cause hearing. According to Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone, Dell’Isola was charged with receiving cocaine from an undercover state trooper during an investigation. “This defendant is alleged to have accepted illegal narcotics and money from an undercover state trooper this afternoon, in violation of …
