The legacy of Occupy Wall Street will be up for discussion tonightk when state Rep. Jay Kaufman, D-Lexington, will host a 'Conversation with Noam Chomsky' as part of his Open House series at Lexington Depot.
State Rep. Jay Kaufman’s Open House is already an award-winning public policy forum, but the Lexington Democrat is kicking it up another notch with his next guest. Tonight, Oct. 15, Noam Chomsky, the acclaimed scholar and Lexington resident, will join Kaufman for a special edition of the forum to be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lexington Depot. According to his website, Kaufman has asked Chomsky to “reflect on the lessons and legacy of Occupy Wall Street and on the state of politics and statecraft on Capitol Hill and Beacon Hill.” Around this time last year, Chomsky addressed a packed house at Lexington High School’s auditorium during a Lexington Community Education program while touring to support the paperback release of his 1999 …

Stein, a Lexington resident, and her running mate Cheri Honkala, were among five people arrested during a sit-in at a Philadelphia bank protesting housing foreclosures.
The campaign trail doesn’t always include stops in police cars and courthouses, but Jill Stein is not your typical presidential candidate. The Lexington resident and Green Party presidential nominee was arrested yesterday, Aug. 1, during a sit-in at a Philadelphia bank protesting housing foreclosures. Stein and her running mate, Cheri Honkala, were among five people arrested after about 50 party supporters staged an “Occupy Fannie Mae” protest. Watch the video posted to your right to see Jill Stein rallying the crowd before her arrest. According to an email from Stein’s campaign, the protest was originally called for by the Poor People’s Economic Rights Campaign to demand that Fannie Mae halt foreclosure proceedings against two …

Jill Stein, who is seeking the Green Party's nomination for president, spoke at Occupy Delaware yesterday and is joining "Occupy the Courts" today in Washington, D.C.
Looks like Jill Stein, the Green Party presidential hopeful from Lexington, is continuing to align her Green New Deal Platform with the Occupy movement as she stumps at OWS outposts along the campaign trail. While in Delaware yesterday, Jan. 19, Stein, stopped by Wilmington’s Spencer Plaza, and spoke with Occupy Delaware protesters, according to the News Journal of Delaware. “Stein said protesters with the Occupy Wall Street movement reflect the same dissatisfaction with President Barak Obama as members of the Green Party, which she called the nation's only viable progressive third party,” says a story and video posted to Delaware Online. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Stein has been working the OWS link since her announcement …

A look back at the week that was in Lexington.
This week started off with strong words about the "White House" from Selectman Peter Kelley, who sounded off about spending public money on the dilapidated structure during the Board of Selectman's Dec. 12 discussion about Community Preservation Act proposals. “I never felt it was worthy of any investment other than the cost to crush it and move it,” Kelley said. “We’re just wasting good public money dressing that pig up. It’s bad news.” Four of the five selectmen declined to opine on spending $202,000 to stabilize any bit of the White House until hearing the Historic Districts Commission’s view on moving the decaying Greek Revival, or sections of it, from 1557 Massachusetts Ave. to the Leary Land. Regarding the rest of the proposed …

The 'Burbs are Occupied and Lexington's among the communities with budding occupations. What do you think about this suburban sprawl? Take our poll or let us know in the comments section below.
It’s official: Occupy Wall Street has swept into suburbia. And, according to the interwebs, the movement is making its way into Lexington. Lexington resident J.J. Krawczyk has started an Occupy Lexington Yahoo! Group called lex-occupy. And, according to Boston.com, Occupations have popped up in Natick, Needham and Netwon, as well as Lexington. “The clearing of Dewey Square is something to pivot on and I’m getting a local e-mail group together, finally, to generate some discussion,’’ Krawczyk said in the story posted yesterday on Boston.com. In an email to Patch, Krawczyk said he’s been busy with local issues, such as working on websites for the upcoming debt exclusion and School Committee Chairwoman Mary Ann Stewart’s re-election campaign…

Since kicking off her campaign on Oct. 24, Lexington resident and Green Party presidential hopeful Jill Stein has aligned herself with the Occupy Wall Street movement. A month later, it's getting her noticed in Washington.
Looks like Washington has been listening to Jill Stein, the Lexington resident and Green Party presidential hopeful. In a Nov. 28 feature, Kris Kitto of The Hill wondered whether Stein is the country’s first Occupy Wall Street candidate. While Stein declines the label, saying Occupiers will pick their own candidate, she does note a “synergistic” chemistry between the Occupy movement and her Green New Deal platform. “We are not looking to hijack them or force them to be electoral or force them in any way to shift from what they’re doing,” Stein told The Hill, which describes itself as a "must read" print and online newspaper for and about Congress. “I think the chemistry between the two entities is rich and synergistic, and we’ll see where …

In a statement released earlier this week, Lexington resident and Presidential hopeful Jill Stein condemns police actions at Occupy encampments as "suppressing rights of free speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of the press."
The recent rash of violent, viral videos from Occupy Wall Street protests has cauth the ire of Presidential candidate and Lexington resident Jill Stein, who on Wednesday released a statement condemning recent police actions against the OWS movement. "The aggressive, needless police actions across the country against Occupy Wall Street (OWS) are an assault on civil liberties and an effort to suppress a much needed movement for economic justice and democracy," said Stein, a Green Party member and past candidate in Massachusetts elections. "The courageous protesters who have stood up to intimidation by lethal force are standing up for us all." In the statement, Stein called upon mayors in occupied cities to "follow the example of Green …
