Lexington's 300th: Some Shots of Locals Racing Through Time

Families and friends participated in the "Race Through Time" competition as part of the Lexington 300th opening day festivities.

A competitive race based on the TV show "The Amazing Race on CBS," the Race Through Time went off on Saturday, Sept. 22 as part of the Lexington 300th opening day ceremonies and Country Fair. The teams set out from Hastings Park, just outside the fair, and had three hours to find the nine "challenge stations" around town and complete the task presented by the challenge station masters, which included Battle Green guides and members of the Lexington Police Department, among others. The race was sponsored by the Lexington-based Collective Brands Performance + Lifestyle Group (Sperry Top-Sider, Saucony, Keds, and Striderite). From the opening ceremonies to the procession through town to the Afterburner performance to the all-town photograph and on to the Country Fair, Race Through Time and Chamber of Commerce's 19th annual Autumn Fine Arts and Crafts Festival, there was a lot to see and do during the opening day of what will be a nine-month celebration of Lexington's 300th anniversary year.  Click through the photos above for a sampling of some scenes from the opening day festivities, and be sure to check back over the next few days for more signs and sounds from the opening ceremonies.

Lexington's 300th: 10 Days and Counting 'Til the Birthday Bash Begins

Race Through Time to the Country Fair and then dance the night away with Dance Revolution 300.

The following was provided by the Lexington 300th Committee. Over the next nine days, we will be highlighting some of the fun to be had at the 300th Anniversary Opening Day events, held on Sept. 22, as well as logistical information to make your day easier. There’s still a few slots open for the Race Through Time, kicking off at 12:30 p.m. at the Country Fair. Don’t miss out on the fun. Lexington's 300th: A Look at Opening Day Ceremonies

Country Fair, Race Through Time, Blue Ribbon Contests and more fun-filled festivities are on tap for Sept. 22.

The folllowing was provided by the Lexington 300th Committee. As part of the Opening Day Events, on Sept. 22, Lexington 300th's Country Fair will feature activities, performances, contests and handicrafts for all to enjoy. The Fair will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. There's still time to sign up for the Blue Ribbon Contests which showcase the gardening and cooking talents of your Lexington neighbors, including special categories for children. Judges will taste delectable entries such as family favorite corn dishes and tastiest tomato, and size up the wildest sunflower or oddest homegrown vegetable. Lexington's 300th: Race Through Time on Sept. 22

The following information was provided by the Lexington 300th Committee.

  A competitive race based on the TV show "The Amazing Race on CBS" will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22 as part of the Opening Day Ceremony and Country Fair. Teachers, parents, students, adults of all ages, all town employees, and families, are welcome. Hurry and sign up, because only 20 teams of 2-5 racers per team will be able to take part in this race.  Don't feel like you're missing the fun! Think of it as the LEF Trivia Bee on foot!   This is not just a foot race, this is a mind boggling journey! You will have three hours to find the nine "challenge stations" around town and complete the task presented to you by the challenge station masters.
