Now in its fifth year, Lexington at Home wants to tell, in brief, something of its story – and to extend an open invitation to all who might be interested to learn more and perhaps join an existing Chapter or help in creating a new one.
The following information was provided on behalf of Lexington at Home. Lexington at Home is derived partially from the concept behind the nation-wide movement called “naturally occurring retirement communities.” That is, people who want to remain in their own homes for as long as is feasible. These people find that the support of age-mate companionship, a helping hand when needed, and information regarding resources all conspire to make this concept work. Most of the “at homes” around the country are organized on what is called a concierge model, directed by a paid staff whose jobs are to find and/or provide services for the members. Free rides for seniors and disabled riders during off-peak hours is part of Lexpress' latest initiative to assist Lexington residents.
The following information was provided by the town of Lexington's Transportation Services Department. With the goal of attracting more riders during off-peak hours, Lexpress is offering free rides to seniors (age 65+), riders with special needs, and Medicare cardholders between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1:59 p.m. This includes all routes scheduled to leave Depot Square between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The pilot program will run from Jan. 1 through June 30 of next year, 2013. Lexpress constantly strives to make changes that meet the needs of the community. As these thoughts were being put to paper, the unrelenting, muffled growls of chain saws still rumbled in the near distance and, of more concern, many thousands of households from New Jersey to Maine had neither the heat to warm themselves nor lighting to read these words. Selectmen and School Committee meetings, a book group and rain in the forecast.
1. The Board of Selectmen meets tonight at 7 p.m. and the agenda includes amending income guidelines for a senior services program, approving a management program for the Battle Road Scenic Byway and considering the Sidewalk Committee's suggested guidelines for sidewalk installation, among other things. 2. The School Committee will hold an executive session tonight in the Town Office Buiding to take up contract negotiations for nonunion personnel. 3.
