Massachusetts State Police will set up sobriety checkpoints somewhere in Middlesex County over Thanksgiving weekend, from Friday, Nov. 23 into Saturday. Nov. 24. The state police say the purpose for the checkpoints "is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways. It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

In line with standard practice, State Police are not releasing the location and times of the checkpoint. State police will set up a routine sobriety checkpoint for drivers somewhere in Middlesex County this weekend.
If you spot a state trooper camped out by the side of the road somewhere in Middlesex County this weekend, he or she may be doing more than just watching for speedsters. State Police Superintendent Col. Marian McGovern announced earlier this week that a sobriety checkpoint will be established on an undisclosed public way in Middlesex County from Saturday into Sunday. These checkpoints, which are funded by a state grant, are routine operations performed by the state police.
