Budget Summitt III: At 7 p.m. tonight at the DPW Building, the Board of Selectmen, Capital Expenditures, Appropriation and School committees will hold their third Budget Collaboration/Summit and the agenda includes revised fiscal 2014 revenue projections, a proposed FY14 revenue allocation model and establishing a date for the fourth summit. 2. Other Public Meetings: According to the town website, other public meetings posted for today include the Tourism Committee at 11:30 a.m.; the Community Preservation Committee at 6:30, with a public hearing at 7 p.m., the Recreation Committee at 7 p.m. and the Planning Board at 7:30 p.m. All of them are at the Town Office Building. 3. Blue Christmas at Grace Chapel: At 7 p.m. tonight, Grace Chapel will host "Blue Christmas: A Service of Hope and Healing for the Holiday Season," a nontraditional service that acknowledges the pain, and offers hope to those who are stressed or hurting during this holiday season. Five Things: Observing Veterans Day

A quick look at what you need to see, do and know on Nov. 12 in Lexington.

1. Observing Veterans Day: Technically, Veterans Day was yesterday, but there are closings and observances today. So here's a little about the holiday, originally known as 'Armistice Day' on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of WWI. According to the U.S. Census website: "Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who served in all American wars." 2. What's Open and Closed: Because of the holiday, the public schools, town offices and Cary Memorial Library are all closed. Many banks are also closed, but some local branches may be open. 3…

Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 27

Songs for a smile, soup bowls for hunger, high school sports and more today in Lexington.

1. Town Government Returns ... Mostly: Town offices re-open today after shutting down yesterday in observance of Christmas, which fell on Sunday this year. But, according to the town website, there are no public meetings posted for today -- or most of this week, for that matter. 2. Songs for a Smile: At Cary Memorial Library this afternoon, there's a free program featuring Parents' Choice Gold Award-winning singer-songwriter, Fran Friedman's interactive music program for families with children ages 1-6. It starts at 2:30 p.m., but space is limited, so you may want to call ahead.  3. Today in High School Sports: Schools may be closed for vacation this week, but sports haven't shut down. Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 23

Half-days, holiday travel and soup bowls for the hunger today in Lexington.

1. Early release for the holiday weekend: It's a half-day for the students and staff of the Lexington Public Schools, which break for Thanksgiving and won't resume classes until after the holiday weekend. The high school lets out first, at 11:15 a.m., followed by the middle schools at 11:45 a.m. and the elementary schools at 12:15 p.m. 2. Soup Bowls for Hunger: Don't feel like cooking this Thanksgiving eve, head over to Nourish and order a bowl of soup, but make sure it's in one of the one-of-a-kind bowls created by the teen pottery class at the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society. For $20, you can get a bowl and some soup -- it's $15 without soup -- and the proceeds go to the Lexington Food Pantry. The fourth annual Soup Bowls for Hunger …
