The Bruins could be primed for a championship run in a lockout-shortened NHL season. So in honor of the hockey's anticipated return, let's rewind to September 2011, when Claude and the Cup visited LPD.
So, as you’ve probably heard, it looks like hockey’s coming back. News broke earlier this week that the National Hockey League and the NHL’s Player’s Association reached a deal on a new collective bargaining agreement and a lockout-shortened season could start Jan. 19. According to ESPN, the framework for the agreement was announced Sunday, but the deal still requires majority approval from the board of governors, which is scheduled to meet today, Jan. 8. Meanwhile, with the agreement looking imminent, analysts and fans have wasted little time positing about the local squad’s chances to make a run at Lord Stanley’s Cup in this abbreviated season. Folks who follow and cover the Boston Bruins have cited the team's talent, depth and …

There's going to be NHL hockey this season after all. Are you excited to watch some games or could you care less?
The National Hockey League lockout tentatively came to an end over the weekend, which means that before long we'll be seeing Boston Bruins action and beyond that, Stanley Cup playoffs. In the past 21 years, the NHL has seen four strikes or lockouts that disrupted all or parts of a season. Some may say that at least in the case of this particular league, it feels like there's been even more of them. Two years ago, Boston fans were anticipating their first Stanley Cup season in over three decades. More recently, the idled team has been something of an afterthought in a city that also has the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. Yes, many of us love the Bruins. We take pride in their Original Six status and the heroes of seasons past. But the NHL…

There is simply no way to include all of the outstanding images captured and posted on Lexington Patch in 2011. From holidays to storms to feel-good features that warm the heart, there has no shortage of powerful photography from local photographers, freelancers and you, our readers. So, in deciding our five favorite photos from 2011, we tried to going to stick to that old adage that a picture's worth 1,000 words and selected images that themselves tell the story. There are actually six pics, but we like to think about the second and third as one before-and-after image. So here they are, in chronological order. 1. Re-Enactors, the Next Generation: In Lexington, it's pretty much a given (or an understatement) that Patriots Day is a kind of…

Bruins Coach Claude Julien, who has lived in Lexington since joining the Bs in 2007, brought the Stanley Cup to the Lexington Police Station for photo ops with the folks who serve his community.
Boston Bruins Coach Claude Julien and the Stanley Cup spent Wednesday afternoon at the Lexington Police Department. Julien, who has lived in town since joining the Bs in 2007, brought the Cup to the station because they thought the people who serve the community deserve the chance to see it. From about noontime through 2 p.m., members of the LPD, Fire Department and Post Office, along with members of their immediate families, filed through the LPD. Some got up close and personal with the Cup, while others cautioned young hockey players not to touch it, lest they curse their chances of claiming the NHL championship one day. “It doesn’t get old. Winning the Cup doesn’t get old, but sharing it with people doesn’t get old either,” said Julien…

A farm tour, a few meetings, an armed robbery and a Stanley Cup.
The week began with a site visit to Busa Farms, where the officials and others toured the town-owned land the Busa Land Use Proposal Committee has recommended using for a community farm and affordabl housing. A photo gallery from the site visit posted to Lexington Patch on Tuesday, same day we shared a story and video about Lexington's Zach Sabin shining during an Ultimate Disc all-star game held Sunday in Somerville. Wednesday was a busy one. Early in the morning, police responded to a reported armed robbery on Homestead Street; arrested one Woburn man and continue their investgation and search for other suspects. A quick meeting with a landscaping Bruins fan was then sandwiched around a pair of importnat meetings we wrote about the …

A recap look at the games and stories Patch covered in and around Lexington this week.
With the high school spring season just about in the books, this week it was time to turn elsewhere to quench our thirst for sports. And the Boston Bruins provided just the thing to do that. The B’s stormed back against the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup Final to capture the team’s first NHL championship since 1972. Black and Gold fans from across the area reveled in their team’s triumph. In Lexington, Matt Scully left little doubt about which team he supports, as the fan mowed a “B” into his front lawn for all to see. Perhaps he will be among the thousands, possibly more, that are expected to flood into Boston on Saturday for the victory parade. On Thursday, the Lexington Blue Sox used a big second inning to fly past the Watertown …

Thousands will flock to Boston to honor the hockey heroes.
The Boston Bruins are getting a hero's welcome home this weekend. After their historic Game 7 victory in Vancouver that won them the Stanley Cup Wednesday, the Bruins will be honored with a parade in Boston Saturday. Lexington fans were fired up before and after Wednesday night's cup-clinching win over the Canucks, and many will venture down to Boston to see the parade. If you're heading down to the parade, be sure to send us some photos. The City of Boston has released the parade route details. Parking is expected to be tough, and city officials have said that restrictions near the parade route will be heavily enforced. All traffic along the parade route will be banned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is recommended that you leave your car at …
