Navy Week: What You Need to Know

Here's what you need to know about visiting the six special ships coming to Charlestown.

Boston Navy Week 2012 kicked off last Thursday. Sure, that means that the Hub is going to have more than its usual allotment of tourists (and traffic will probably be tough), but it also means that you have the opportunity to check out some cool international ships. Here's a peek at the full schedule. And here's what visitors need to know: From Navy Public Affairs: "There is no age requirement to tour U.S. Navy Ships during Boston Navy Week. However, there may be steep ladders (stairways) to climb and uneven surfaces to traverse during a ship tour, and thus, tours may not be appropriate for small children and may be difficult for individuals with heart conditions, breathing difficulties, or other medical conditions impacting their ability …

Boston Navy Week Means Tall Ships, Blue Angels and Parking Headaches

Boston always puts on a show for the Fourth of July but this year Boston Navy Week - with the Tall Ships sailing in - makes it a week long extravaganza.  The event helps commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Ships have docked all around Boson Harbor, including at the Charlestown Navy Yard near Old Ironsides, the Fish Pier and Massport's Marine Terminal in South Boston.  The public can tour the old tall ships, get a glimpse of modern war ships including the USS Wasp aircraft carrier and the destroyer USS Gravely, Coast Guard ships and ships from other countries. Boston Tall Ships Schedule 2012: See These Ships Come Sailing In

Tall ships are coming at the end of the week. Here are some of the highlights.

The Lions Club Carnival and local festivities kick off early next week in Lexington, but the tall ships are coming to Boston even before that.  Beginning this Saturday through July 6 to celebrate the USS Constitution and the bicentennial of the War of 1812, Boston Harbor will be filled with square-rigged vessels, canvas and oak.
