From BBQ cook-offs to community sing-a-longs, a month’s worth of events, all captured on one calendar. And it starts today.
Back for a third year and looking better than ever, Revolutionary Revelry is rolling out a calendar of events aimed at attracting cultural tourists to spend time—and money—in Lexington during a merry month sandwiched between Patriots’ Day and summer vacation. “We have the history, we have the culture, we have the recreational resources,” say Dawn McKenna, of the Tourism Committee. “There’s nothing people could want that they can’t find here in Lexington, and Revolutionary Revelry is really designed to show that.” Like the Tourism Committee, Revolutionary Revelry is both facilitator and cheerleader. It encourages new cultural and activities and promotes existing events, bringing them all together in one, easy-to-market, package. This year…

Making the month of May even merrier since 2011.
In any given month, one can find plenty of things to do in Lexington, but historically certain pages of the calendar have been more attractive to tourists than others. Sandwiched between the Patriots’ Day hoopla in April and start of summer vacation in late June, May was one of those months that didn’t exactly scream, “Be here now.” Well, until the past few years anyway. Enter Revolutionary Revelry, an initiative driven by Dawn McKenna and the Tourism Committee to package and promote a month’s worth of events and activities that celebrate Lexington’s arts, culture and history. The idea, according to McKenna, is to leverage cultural assets to as an economic stimulus: attracting cultural tourists to the town during an off-peak tourism period…

At an Oct. 12 business breakfast hosted by the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, several spoke in favor of plans to turn the former retirement residence into an inn and restaurant.
Business leaders from several of Lexington’s industries spoke in favor of a proposal to turn the Dana Home into an inn and restaurant Wednesday morning at the Chamber of Commerce’s Business Breakfast Forum. From farmers to an airline leader to a hotel manager and school superintendent, several folks said a quintessentially New England bed and breakfast would benefit the town and, potentially, their businesses during the Oct. 12 forum at the Lexington Depot. “These are the kids of things that revitalize the community and make it worth living here,” said Nick Cannalonga of Wagon Wheel Nursery. According to the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, the Dana Home proposal was tapped to be the forum’s featured presentation due to the “project’s solid…

It's always lively in town.
Walking through Lexington Center on a warm fall day is like being at a large party – one that starts at the Battle Green and ends at Dunkin' Donuts on Woburn Street. I was there to help the Lexington Historical Society’s Program and Events Committee stuff goody bags for the golfers for the upcoming Oct. 3 tournament at Lexington Golf Club. By the time I arrived Chairman Carolann Brockett and other committee members already had the bags filled and ready. A day late and a dollar short. Had I remembered my husband borrowed my car, that telehone call to Harrison Global Transportation would have occurred lot earlier... Instead, I helped pull apart a few tables, chatted with members and headed out the door toward Sweet Beads to see Co-owner and …

Plans to redevelop the Dana Home and adjacent property on Mass Ave into an inn and restaurant are making the preliminary rounds among town boards, and they're receiving mixed reviews from officials and neighbors. While most agree that an inn would be an appropriate use for the old retirement residence, some have expressed concerns about the scale, the parking and the restaurant. Trisha Perez Kennealy, the woman behind the project, says she welcomes suggestions as she makes plans to create an inn/restaurant that's enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. So, with that in mind, we want to know, What do you think about plans to redevelop the Dana Home as an inn? Do you think 22 rooms and a 14-tabletop restaurant is too much for the residential …

A Lexington woman is looking to redevelop the Dana Home and an adjacent property on Massachusetts Avenue as an inn and restaurant.
Trisha Perez Kennealy, owner of the Dana Home property at 2027 Massachusetts Ave., has begun making the rounds to town boards and revealing her plans to turn the former retirement residence into an inn and restaurant. A classically trained chef who used to work in banking, Perez Kennealy said she has long wanted to go into the hospitality business in Lexington, the town she called home as a child and to which she returned to raise her own family. Perez Kennealy targeted the Dana Home as a historical structure with architectural features that recall a bygone era of building and has an agreement to purchase the adjacent house and barn at 2013 Mass Ave. While Perez Kennealy is “excited about redeveloping the property as a small inn,” some …

An unusual concert yesterday.
Brian McMillian, one of the officials from Michigan’s Plymouth Fife & Drum Corps sent me more information, which I’ll share with you. The corps performed at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel for the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) and the Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP). While at Buckman Tavern they played a drum solo, and a few medley, some of which included: Downshire, the Rocks and the Rolling Sea; Thro the Lang Muir; Brink of the White Rocks, Captain Cooper’s Ramble; Johnny’s Gone to France. Organizers of the trip included: Mark Brown, president; Pierre Brideau, vice president; Gayl Parr, transportation manager; Sue Momano, business manager; Nan McCabe, Treasurer; Tim McCabe, Sergeant at Arms and transportation manager; …

Showing Lexington's talents.
Lexington Arts & Crafts Society is holding an Artisans’ Market in its Parsons Gallery until Aug. 20. More than 50 artists contributed to a show/sale that includes wood and metal works, beads, polymer and clay, needle art, photography and so much more. The show started on July 23 – and there are signs all over town to remind you to get to the Waltham Street society before it's over. Colonial Calm ... I chatted with Matthew, a Lexington High School senior, who was sitting on a bench near the Battle Green waiting for tourists. Matthew, wearng rough hewn clothing and sporting a tricorn hat, said he shares the Lexington Battle Green story with all those who visit. Unfortunately, while I was there it was hot - and there weren't any takers. …

A roundup of some items Lexington's Board of Selectmen took up during Monday's extra-long meeting, including a transportation program extension, a Keno license rejection and Battle Green regulations.
Lexpress Point-to-Point Program Extended The Board of Selectmen Monday voted to extend a Lexpress pilot program that provides point-to-point transportation between Lexington’s senior housing villages and the Senior Center. The program was introduced this spring as a way to encourage seniors living at Countryside, Greeley or Vynebrook villages to use public transportation and participate in Senior Center programming. The selectmen agreed to extend the program through the end of the fiscal year at the request of Bill Levison, chairman of the Transportation Advisory Committee, who said it has minimal impact on Lexpress’ standard service. According to the initial schedule, the point-to-point transportation program picks up seniors from the …
