One Step Closer to an Inn at Hastings Park

Lexington ZBA OKs plans to redevelop a former convalescence home and adjacent property on Mass Ave into a hotel and restaurant, despite objections from some neighbors.

It was all ayes on plans to transform the Dana Home and an adjacent property into a “New England-style inn” to be known as the Inn at Hastings Park, which received approval last week from the Zoning Board of Appeals. In a meeting last Thursday, July 26, Lexington’s ZBA approved a definitive site development plan (DSDUP), allowing certain new uses and site improvements and a special permit to allow an additional standing sign at the site. Those approvals all came over objections from some members of the neighborhood directly across the road from the properties at 2013 and 2027 Mass Ave, including a comment that some neighbors are even considering moving out of town.   For the latest in Lexington-related news, follow Lexington Patch on …

Trisha Perez-Kennealy's proposal has been thoroughly vetted, sliced, and diced for months on end. I frankly have been amazed by her fortitude in enduring the public and private process that has gone on to get to this point -- so that now, the work can begin. I applaud her proposal and can not wait to see it carried through to fruition. I think it will be a wonderful addition to the offerings of …   more ›

Inn at Hastings Park Proposal Passes Town Meeting

Lexington's annual Town Meeting voted Wednesday, May 9 to approve a zoning amendment to rezone the Dana Home and an adjacent property on Mass Ave for commercial use in a residential zone under the town’s CD zoning.

If the proposal was divisive, then the vote was decisive. By a vote of 138 to 44, Lexington’s annual Town Meeting last night approved Article 34, a citizen’s petition to rezone parcels at 2027 and 2013 Massachusetts Ave. to allow for commercial redevelopment of the Dana Home and the adjacent property as a hotel and restaurant concept known as the Inn at Hastings Park. After a long road to annual Town Meeting and a lengthy discussion when Article 34 finally hit the floor on Wednesday, May 9, it would have made sense for the proponent, Trisha Perez Kennealy, to be feeling relieved or vindicated. Instead, she said her team would be going right back to work.  “The work is only just begun,” Perez Kennealy, a Town Meeting member from Precinct 6…

With Planning Board Support, Inn at Hastings Park Heads to BOS

The Board of Selectmen's consideration of a Memorandum of Understanding this Thursday could be the last step before Town Meeting takes up a proposal to redevelop the Dana Home as a hotel and restaurant.

Monday night was a step in the right direction for Trisha Perez Keneally, the Lexington resident looking to redevelop the Dana Home as an upscale hotel and restaurant concept known as The Inn at Hastings Park. By at 3 to 1 vote with one board member not present for the vote, Kennealy’s concept earned a measure of support from the Planning Board, which recommended approval of a Preliminary Site Development and Use Plan, conditioned upon the execution of an acceptable Memorandum of Understanding with the Board of Selectmen. To read the Planning Board’s full report, check out the PDF posted to your right. The MOU is on the the Board of Selectmen’s agenda for tomorrow evening, a meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Cary Hall. “We’re very pleased…

It seems like many of the most vocal proponents of The Inn are folks who do not live anywhere near the inn and so they really do not have that much at stake in terms of the project impacting their day to day quality of life. It also seems like many of the most vocal opponents live close to The Dana Home and feel it could possibly impact their day to day living. It was also interesting to me that …   more ›

Annual Town Meeting Opens March 26 (POLL)

Some times, dates and locations you'll need to know about annual Town Meeting, which convenes tomorrow evening at Cary Hall. Which article do you think warrants the most attention? Take our poll or let us know in the comment section below.

It's that time of year again. Annual Town Meeting convenes at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, March 26, at Cary Hall. We don't know yet how long the Mondays and Wednesdays meeting will last, but we do know there will be a special Town Meeting April 2 to appropriate funds for a new Estabrook School, and there will be no Town Meeting held during School Vacation Week, April 16 to 20. It's also expected there will be a date certain for the Dana Home proposal, and that could be established tomorrow.   The warrant includes the town and school budgets, requests for Community Preservation Act funding, a new Town Seal, a school transportation proposal that would use town dollars to drive down bus fees, and zoning proposals that would allow significant changes …

Dana Home Rezoning Goes Before Planning Board Tonight

The public hearing, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Clarke Middle School auditorium, will review the proposed zoning article before it heads to annual Town Meeting.

A controversial request for a zoning change that would allow the Dana Home and abutting property to be redeveloped as a hotel and restaurant will go before the Planning Board tonight. The public hearing, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Clarke Middle School auditorium, will review the proposed zoning article before it heads to annual Town Meeting. According to the description for Article 34, regarding the Inn at Hastings Park, this request seeks to rezone the property from the present residential one-family dwelling district to a planned commercial development district to allow for renovation and addition to existing buildings, as well as the change in use. Over the past year, project proponent Trisha Perez Kennealy, a Town Meeting …

Hi Jean, Thanks for reading and commenting. Admittedly, I kept the description of the plans very basic due to the length of the article, which is already a good deal longer than many of the stories you'll find here on Patch, and the availability of more complete descriptions of the project on places, like your LexProtects website. To be fair, the description here also omits information Trisha …   more ›

Green Waste Processing Facility Would Require Rezoning of Hartwell

Members of the Board of Selectmen believe having the proponent of an anaerobic digestion facility at the Hartwell Avenue Compost Facility drive the required zoning change through the commercial development process is the best chance at success.

As the town moves forward with plans to bring a green waste processing facility to the Hartwell Avenue compost area, the Board of Selectmen would like to see the required zoning change come through a commercial development rezoning process. In early October, the selectmen authorized Town Manager Carl Valente to move forward with a request for proposals looking for companies interested in running an anaerobic digestion facility at the Hartwell Avenue Compost Facility. However, Planning Department staff has determined this type of operation would not be allowed under current the current zoning on Hartwell Avenue. On Monday, Valente asked the selectmen to provide guidance to town staff and shared three options for addressing the issue. They …
