Wildlife Officials: Brookline Bear and Cape Cod Bear Are Same Animal

Environmental officials captured a black bear in Brookline this afternoon and have confirmed that it is the bear that spent time on the Cape earlier this month.

Massachusetts wildlife officials confirmed this afternoon that the bear caught in Brookline earlier today is the famous Cape Cod Bear who traveled from the South Shore to Cape Cod a few weeks ago. According to a press release issued by the state's Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, officials cannot confirm that all recent sightings around Metro Boston are the same bear, only that the bear captured in Brookline June 26 is the same as the bear captured in Wellfleet on June 12.  While on the Cape, the bear hung out in backyards, feasting on birdseed and other goodies, in South Plymouth for at least a week before swimming across the Cape Cod Canal.
