Looking at the what, when and when of Patriots' Day weekend events along the Battle Road in Lexington, Lincoln and Concord.
It starts tomorrow. Patriots' Day weekend has arrived, and we all know what that means: Parades, patriotism, people and the smell of sulfur in the morning. The running battles and re-enactments begin tomorrow, April 13. An afternoon parade and midnight ride will be among the highlights on Sunday, April 14. And on Patriots' Day itself -- Monday, April 15 -- there will be enough activities that it wouldn't be fair to try and pack them all into one sentence. So, flip through the photos above, which have many of the area's Patriots' Day weekend events included therein. Or scroll down below to find event information in an easy-to-scan list, subdivided according to community. Or, take a peek at the PDF posted above, which includes a schedule of …

Due to the Patriots’ Day schedule shakeup, the Lexington’s Outstanding Youth, Minuteman Cane and White Tricorne Hat awards will all be announced at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10.
Three annual awards, given out in recognition of Lexington residents who go above and beyond, are typically presented during Patriots’ Day morning ceremonies on the Battle Green. The recipients are later honored participants in the afternoon parade that follows. However, this year it’s going to be a little different. As a nod to the nine-month celebration of Lexington’s 300th anniversary, the afternoon parade has been pushed up from Monday to Sunday, which means the afternoon parade will actually be held before the morning ceremonies. And so, the White Tricorne Hat, Minuteman Cane and Outstanding Youth awards will all be presented at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, at Cary Hall. About the Awards The White Tricorne Hat is awarded to a current …
That Lexington’s Battle Green will host a pro-gun rally next week has upset some and inspired others. Where do you come down on the issue?
Here once the embattled farmers stood and—even if Emerson’s prose puts it a dozen miles west—fired the “shot heard ‘round the world.” Now, nearly a quarter-millennium later, Lexington’s Battle Green finds itself home to a gun battle of a different kind. Next Friday, April 19, Gun Rights Across America plans to hold a “Muster on the Battle Green” rally in Lexington, featuring Oath Keepers Founder Stewart Rhodes as a guest speaker. On the local front, there has been some talk about mounting a counter-rally. And the newish national group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America has taken notice of the rally and says some local members may stand in silent opposition to, but are unlikely to engage, the pro-Second Amendment rally. All that’…

Running down the road closures and expected delays around next weekend’s Patriots’ Day festivities.
Re-enactments, parades and midnight rides will lead to road closures and traffic delays around Lexington next Saturday, Sunday and Monday as the town celebrates Patriots’ Day weekend and remembers what started here. A full schedule of traffic management plans, provided by the town, is posted to your right as a PDF. From the notice: “No Parking” signage is posted and/or parking meters bagged in most of the above areas the day of each event or, the night before if it is held at an early hour. Look for signage along the entire side of the roadway you are thinking of parking in case temporary signs have been removed at your parking spot. The approach roadways to the parade routes receive parking restrictions because congestion reduces access…

An easy opportunity to help Lexington celebrate Patriots' Day and the town's 300th anniversary.
Patriots' Day in Lexington, well, it's kind of a big deal. And it's an even bigger deal this year in light of the town's 300th anniversary celebration. With that in mind, the annual Patriots' Day afternoon parade has been pushed up to Sunday, April 14. Normally it steps off Monday afternoon, but the logic behind the change is that more out-of town folks can attend and participate in a Sunday parade. But, I digress. Anyway, the parade must go on. And, for that to happen, it requires volunteers. The Town Celebrations Committee is seeking volunteers to serve as Parade Ambassadors for the Patriots’ Day/300th Anniversary parade on Sunday April 14. For an overview on Lexington's Patriots' Day weekend festivities, click the blue. According to a …

Telling you when and where to celebrate the 238th anniversary of the ‘Battle of Lexington’ and this town’s 300th birthday.

Spoiler Alert: It’ll be a weekend of pomp, circumstance and patriotism – and all of it quintessentially Lexington. Much of it will sound familiar, but there is a significant, one-time change this year: The afternoon parade will be held on Sunday, April 14, as a nod to the yearlong town’s tercentennial celebration. Read on for an overview of the Patriots' Day weekend events. For the full schedule, check out the town website or the PDF posted to your right. Saturday, April 13 Per the usual, the weekend’s events will get started at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, when the Lexington Minutemen will gather on the Battle Green …

Here's the press release provided by the Town Celebrations/300th Celebration Committee: Because no one individual can fully personify the 2013 Patriots’ Day/ 300th Anniversary parade theme of “We Are Lexington”, the Town Celebrations Committee will select a group of Lexington residents who collectively represent the whole spectrum of Lexington’s political, cultural, economic, and social heritage from the town’s establishment in 1713 to the present day. The committee invites nominations of groups of 8 to 12 persons to serve as Grand Marshals for the 2013 Patriots Day/300th Anniversary Parade (Sunday, April 14, 2013). Groups should be diverse and should address the theme “We Are Lexington” as broadly as possible. Please reply to …

Lexington resident Dan Fenn, a member of the town's Minute Man company, discusses the first few hours of the American Revolution, including who really fired the shot heard 'round the world.
Emerson be damned -- Lexington Minute Man Dan Fenn says the “shot heard ‘round the world” was fired in his back yard, but not by colonial militia or the British Regulars. The claim came during a Patriots’ Day program titled “What Really Happened That Day,” in which Fenn asked his audience to travel back 237 years, take a few steps outside of the First Parish in Lexington and envision themselves standing on the area now known as the Battle Green. He started with the weather, saying it probably wasn’t quite sweltering like yesterday’s scorcher the morning of April 19, 1775, but the winter had been warm, the grass was high and the dandelions were in bloom. Meanwhile, tensions running high around Boston had Patriots like Paul Revere and the …
