Video: Patriots' Day Parade

Lexington loved a parade on Patriots' Day.

Lexington's Patriots' Day parade stepped off about 2 p.m. and reached the Battle Green not long before 3 p.m., Monday afternoon. With bands, floats, flags, local businesses and military arms represented, the hundreds who lined Mass Ave near the Green agreed the parade was a wonderful way to cap the days of Patriots' Day festivities.

From the reporter's notebook.

A Solemn Service Among the Celebrations

Lexington Lions Club holds its memorial service for the U.S.S. Lexington.

The USS Lexington lies in Corpus Cristi Bay, a floating museum open seven days a week. But here in Massachusetts, in the town that started the Revolution and shares the ship's name, the "Blue Ghost" and others are remembered fondly on Patriots' Day, having earned their place among the brave colonists who fought for freedom. This morning, the Lions Club held a 23rd anniversary U.S.S. Lexington memorial service at the monument to the ships. The service included musical selections from the Lexington High School Band, a wreath service, tolling of the ship's bell and three rounds of volley from the Lexington Minute Men. "We try to keep the memory alive, and honor their service," said Lion Alan Wrigley, of the U.S.S. Lexington Committee. The …

UPDATE: Waiting for the Parade

No place like home, especially on Patriots' Day ...

Those who went to this morning's reenactment are probably feeling a bit drowsy by now. There's more to come, so get some coffee! If you didn’t get there don’t worry, Patrick Ball did – and wrote a story that really showcases the event. I am wondering how Amanda Palmer's "Ninja" gig went over with the crowd. I'll let you know. Don’t forget there’s a parade – and it’s always wonderful. If work is finished I may see you there! Posted at 5:45 a.m. Thank you to Hank Manz, last week’s guest columnist. Every day was better than before – so it’s a good thing I didn’t stay away much longer. Other journalists in St. Croix asked where I call home. Through Town Historian Richard Kollen, I know we have more than a few American cities and towns called …

Welcome back! I remember visiting Lexington for this event with my family, we still talk about it. My husband said it was the longest parade he has ever seen (including the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade we saw in NY). You are fortunate to live in a town that is so rich in our country's history. What a beautiful town...   more ›

Five Things You Need to Know Today: 18

It's Patriots' Day, and now what?

1. It's Patriots' Day. So, if you're reading this, then chances are you missed "The Alarm" at the Old Belfry, reading of the script and the Reenactment of the Battle of Lexington at the Battle Green, which all begin between 5:30 and 6 a.m. But worry not, there's plenty more throughout the day. So read on. 2. Like pancakes? You're in luck. St. Brigid Church, First Baptist Church of Lexington and Church of Our Redeemer are all hosting pancake breakfasts from 6 to 10 a.m.  3. So, it's a state holiday. You may be wondering what's open and what's closed. Short version is that state offices -- and that includes municipal -- are closed, but federal offices are open, which means you'll still get your mail. For more info, check here. 4. In …
