With the Nov. 6 election less than two weeks away, a meme-making Facebook app is the latest attempt to rally support for Lexington resident Jill Stein, the Green Party's presidential candidate.
While President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney have been busy making hashtags out of horses and bayonets, Jill Stein, the Green Party presidential hopeful, has been busy fighting for America's attention by getting arrested and trying to go viral. Before the second presidential debate last week, Stein, a Lexington resident, and running mate Cheri Honkala unsuccessfully attempted to gain access to the debate hall at Hofstra University, ultimately getting arrested and calling the process a "mockery of Democracy." Following the arrest, Stein said, "It was painful but symbolic to be handcuffed for all those hours, because that what the Commission on Presidential Debates has essentially done to American democracy." And that…

The first part in Patch's The Romney Effect series looks at how Mitt Romney and his family appear on social media.
Mitt Romney's Facebook page states he likes "East of Eden," "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?" and Johnny Cash. But you won't find anything about his hometown of Belmont on his 'likes' list. Does that mean Romney doesn't like Belmont, despite living there for four decades? We can't presume to know, but we know that comments or insights, likes (or even dislikes) about local happenings doesn't appear to be part of the presumptive Republican candidate's social media presence. More than 2.5 million Facebook members 'like' Belmont's most prominent citizen. Or about 10 percent of the 'likes' on Pres. Barack Obama's Facebook page. Social media – Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, Flickr, Instagram and even newcomer Pinterest – have been considered …

The Lexington resident and presumptive Green Party presidential candidate is looking for online input regarding her running mate, plus her Mother's Day video and reaction to President Obama support for marriage equality.
Jill Stein, the Lexington resident and prospective Green Party presidential nominee, is crowdsourcing to select a running mate in her bid to give the White House a Green makeover. Earlier this week, Stein’s campaign announced she had crossed the 50 percent threshold to winning the Green Party’s 2012 nomination and had locked up 75 percent of all delegates, with the next nearest candidate—comedienne Roseanne Barr, who’s more concerned with platforms than the presidency—14 percent. With Stein’s stronghold on presumptive nominee status, queries have turned to the topic of a Green Party veep, and her team, in turn, is looking to the interwebs for suggestions. “Many have asked about who Jill Stein will choose as her vice presidential running …

During a Super Tuesday spent at home in Lexington, the local Green Party presidential hopeful opened up to Patch about the energized youth and what victory would mean to her.
Heading into this week’s end, Lexington’s Green Party presidential hopeful, Jill Stein, is nine for nine in primaries and appears in prime position to grab the party’s nomination. And, even as she’s been frustrated at times about how difficult it can be to uncover good news about each passing primary, Stein has been equally as excited about the energy she encountered out on the campaign trail. Having hit a number of college towns and Occupy outposts over the first six months of her campaign, Stein, 61, says it’s exciting how the younger generation, as it comes of political age, is connecting with Green Party ideas and solutions. “There’s no doubt that the coming of age politically of a whole new generation is very much a part of this …

Election 2012 could have serious Lexington linkage. Two politicians with ties to the town took key steps in their campaign for the United States presidency on Monday as Jill Stein officially announced her candidacy for the Green Party’s bid and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney filed for the New Hampshire Primary. Stein, as most people know, is a Lexington resident and former Town Meeting member, along with being doctor and environmental-health advocate and past Green Party candidate for governor. What some people might not know is that Romney has ties to the town that go beyond his residence in nearby Belmont. According to the interwebs, Romney for President, Inc. lists its address on Hayden Avenue. In fact, the man himself shared …

Announcing her candidacy today, Jill Stein, a doctor and environmental health advocate, today name-dropped Occupy Wall Street and laid out plans to bring a "Green New Deal" to the White House.
Lexington resident Jill Stein officially threw her hat into the race to become the Green Party’s 2012 presidential nominee today. Announcing her candidacy today, Oct. 24, Stein aligned herself with “the 99 percent” and cast President Obama as no different than his Republican challengers when it comes to dealing with Wall Street, according to the Boston Globe. “People are realizing that ‘We the People’ have to take charge, because the political parties that are serving the top 1 percent are not going to solve the problems the rest of us are facing,” Stein said in her remarks. “And we need people in Washington who refuse to be bought by lobbyist money and for whom change is not just a slogan.” (Full text of Stein’s announcement remarks …
