On the article Should Mass. Keep Jobs For Toll Collectors?
Deb

ReplyI gotta say, the toll collectors make more than our teachers, their qualifications are only their connections, and they are not on the whole and with exceptions, the nicest or most accommodating public servants I've ever met, although on Christmas Eve they usually will smile and sometimes say Merry Christmas~ So one must hope that they will be aware that their jobs are liable to end at any time (just as we who work or have worked in the private sector are) and are taking training and looking around for new jobs.

President Bush consistently called us the Democrat Party in his inimitable bad grammar (describing a noun, party, with another noun rather than an adjective.) All the "Republics" have followed suit. So Chris is just following the lead of the jerk who got us into this deficit crisis with his stupid wars. Remember, at the end of the Clinton administration the deficit had been greatly reduced.
I don't think the American public is so stupid that they think it is right that rich people, like Mitt Romney, should pay a lower proportion of their income in taxes than the poor and middle class does. The rate for the top earners should be 33%. When the Republicans catch on to this they can have their spending cuts. But not before.

On the article TELL US: Does 'Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer' Condone Bullying?
Deb

ReplyGo Julie!
Rudolph's difference is finally recognized as an asset and valued by the biggest authority figure in the story - Santa Claus! Don't you think that that conveys a message of hope? Isn't that what Christmas is about - teaching a message of acceptance and that we have a larger family and community than just the people we live with every day? And that we can make our world better by being accepting of dfferences and learning to love a doll (or person) who is not quite perfect. Because who is really, in the end, perfect?

ReplyThis is just Union busting. The company tried to get the workers to take pay cuts, health benefit cuts and pension cuts. So the workers said no and went on strike, management (who were not long time owners, they were Mitt Romney types who don't want to run businesses, they want to make profits) fired them, they will take all the cash out of the pension fund, and sell the brand, probably to Lance or Nabisco or Keebler, and run to the Cayman Islands. This has been coming for two years and I have been following the story. No more apple pies for me!

On the article Barack Obama Re-Elected President

Oh yeah, work under the table! Take that money out of the tax stream so that those who report their income/whose income is reported for them have to pay more! Talk about your vicious cycle!
Oh and there's an article in the NYT about how shocked Republicans are that women don't like their candidates - one conservative Catholic, one whose Grandfather was a polygamist and whose 'church - cult more like it' - does not allow women clergy (oops, two of those) and two who think that women who are raped deserve to get pregnant and bear a rapist's child. Republicans - enemies of logic!

If it had been closer, do you think the Supreme Court would have allowed it to go to the Electoral College or would they have rushed in as they did in 2000. Imagine if they had not, and Shrub had not become Pres. No Iranian and Afghanistan wars, no Bush deficit...sigh. Let's hope Mr O can get a few more good people on the SC.
