Into the Woods
An exhibit by the Woodworkers and Photographers Guilds

June 28 - July 13, 2014

Gallery Hours: Tuesday-Friday & Sunday 12 -4 pm and Saturday
10 am to 4 pm.

Opening Reception: Sunday, June 29th, 1 - 3 pm.

Gallery Talk by:  Michael Pekovich, Art Director, Fine Woodworking

A Collaborative exhibit of the two Guilds featuring photography, furniture, turnings and carvings.

The exhibit is organized around wood as a subject and as a material. The photography features images of trees, northern woods, and tropical rainforests, as well as other photographic subjects.  The woodworking includes pieces crafted from different kinds of wood and created using a variety of woodworking techniques: carved pieces, furniture, and pieces turned on a lathe.

If you're a woodworker, wouldn't you like to be able to make great photos of the wonderful woodworking pieces you've made?  And if you're a photographer, wouldn't you like to hear how the Art Director of Fine Woodworking magazine (FWW) manages to get beautiful photos so consistently?

Opening Reception: Sunday, June 29, 1 -3 pm
Michael will give a talk with slides, and a demo showing how you can make a great finished shot - as good as the 35 covers he's made over the 13 years he's been Art Director at Fine Woodworking.

Michael will bring his standard (inexpensive) studio tools and will setup and use one of the pieces from the gallery as an example of how he arranges lighting to eliminate highlights and choose the right shooting angle.  The author of more than 45 articles in Fine Woodworking, Michael is both an accomplished woodworker and a superb photographer and artist.
