Who’s Paying for Hastings Park’s Rehab?

Who foots the bill for post-carnival cleanup at Hastings Park? Will the green space return to its former glory? You ask, Patch answers.

After the Fourth of July Carnival and the crowds it draws take brief residence on the grass at Hastings Park, the triangular greenspace can look a little rough for a while. But it’ll bounce back, according to the folks who tend to the town’s fields, and should look no worse for the wear.

“I don’t see any issues with bringing the park back to where it was in the spring,” said Chris Filadoro, public grounds superintendent and tree warden for the town.

While Lexington’s Public Grounds crews facilitate efforts to rehabilitate Hastings Park, the Lions Club foots the bill.

According to Filadoro, the public grounds team will be filling in ruts, handling seedings and fertilization and watering the park. As the hosts of the annual carnival, the Lexington Lions are on the hook to cover whatever costs.

Both town staff and club members confirmed the arrangement, and expressed confidence that the park will make a full recovery from any damage caused by the carnival.

The 2013 carnival was the second held at Hastings Park. The festivities moved there in 2012 as work was—and is—ongoing across Worthen Road at the Center Fields.
